As a coach in the Wayzata Soccer Club you are required to attend PACT (Parents and Coaches Together) prior to the start of the 2009 summer season. Attendees are required to register online at http://www.mnyouthsoccer.org/pac/workshops.cfm prior to the actual class date. If you were not able to attend the Feb. 28th session as part of the mandatory coaches meeting, you will need to register for and attend another session listed on the website. Seminars will continue to be added throughout the coming weeks and are offered through April of 2009.
Parents and Coaches Together (PACT) is an educational program developed at the University of Notre Dame’s Center for Ethical Education and Development. The program is based on the latest research from developmental and sports psychology and is designed to help coaches and parents to get on the same page in successfully creating a positive and nurturing climate in Minnesota youth soccer.
Research has shown that improved sideline behavior is directly related to player’s performance. Minnesota athletes reported the predominant factor in coaches creating a toxic climate for them currently is the emphasis on outperforming teammates, and the coach favoring some athletes over others. The PACT training is designed to help coaches explore ways of intrinsically motivating players to be the best player they can be. Through educational efforts, PACT™ increases the likelihood that all youth will continue to play and enjoy soccer.
Questions regarding PACT may be directed to Shelly Orr, MYSA Director of Member Services at 952-252-0226 or shellyorr@mnyouthsoccer.org. Questions regarding club policy as it relates to attendance at this seminar should be directed to Scott Grinde or Tony Pesznecker.
